The Montwood Rams will be taking part in a tournament against the San Elizario Eagles at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Montwood has five straight wins, San Elizario has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Montwood proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Parkland 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since February 14th.
Trinity Munoz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had over her last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Jaeda Quinones, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, San Elizario came up short against El Paso on Thursday and fell 13-8. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly five runs.
Caylee Venegas made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Shivanna VBromell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, San Elizario was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Paso only posted a batting average of .294.
San Elizario's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13-1. As for Montwood, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like San Elizario struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
