Braylon Brooks and Connor Hilliard made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Brooks tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Hilliard didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Luray is 7-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise. At bat, Brooks went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Hilliard went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trey Guzy, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March. Gavin Sparks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Luray kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Page County only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Central Woodstock's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 6-3 to Staunton.
Blake Helsley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Austin Hosaflook, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Luray's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Central Woodstock, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Luray has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Central Woodstock struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
