Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Bromo Dorn of
Seabury (Makawao) is the 2024-25 Hawaii MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-6 senior guard led the Spartans to a 29-4 record and their first state championship in program history.
For the season, Dorn averaged 27.6 points per contest while knocking down 81 3-pointers and converting 74.3 percent of his free throw attempts.
Over his final two years at Seabury, Dorn tallied 1,353 points and connected on 117 3-pointers. As a junior, Dorn averaged 18.1 points per contest and guided the Spartans to an appearance in the state title game with a record of 25-3.
In a 49-33 victory over Hawaii Prep (Kamuela) in the Division II state title game, Dorn tallied a game-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals en route to tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.
Dorn produced 30 or more points 12 times this season and 40 or more three times, including a career-high 44 in a season-opening 81-67 victory over Kekaulike (Pukalani).
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
