GREELEY, Colo. -
Mead (Longmont, Colo.) had a comfortable lead entering the fourth quarter, but used seven fourth quarter points to seal the 41-14 victory over
Northridge (Greeley, Colo.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Griffin Nelson to
Jeremy Rasmussen in the second quarter, the Maverick led 27-14 at the half.
Mead grew its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored once in the quarter on a
Thomas Jenkins touchdown run.
A 27-point second quarter helped the Longmont school secure the big victory. The Maverick scored on a Nelson touchdown run, a touchdown pass by Nelson to Rasmussen, a touchdown run by
Dane Meyers and a
Kyle Couch touchdown run in the quarter.
Mead's standout player in the win was Nelson. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
MHS came into the game allowing 9.4 points per game. Northridge's 14 points were well below their season average of 24.2 per game.
The loss was the third in a row for Northridge.
Northridge (3-4) goes up against Berthoud in a 3A Tri-Valley game matchup next week, while Mead (6-0) locks horns with Skyline also in a 3A Tri-Valley game.
