Oasis Christian is 0-7 against Victory Christian Academy since March of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Lions will challenge the Storm at 7:00 p.m. Oasis Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Oasis Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Ruskin Christian and fell 9-8.
Michael Gonzalez put in work no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Gall made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Brandon Earls was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Meanwhile, Victory Christian Academy posted their closest win since March 14th on Thursday. They skirted past Bartow 5-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Storm as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Landon Cuzzone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Collin Strickland, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Elijah Mayo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Oasis Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Victory Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Oasis Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Victory Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Oasis Christian might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Victory Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
