Baseball Recap: Bethany Community Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Bethany Community had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Northeast Guilford on Monday. Bethany Community was the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over Northeast Guilford. Considering the Wolves have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Gavin Washburn and Ryan Rudd were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Washburn struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Rudd pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Washburn has posted since back in March of 2024. At bat, Washburn scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Rudd went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooks McDowell, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brooks Lawson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Bethany Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast Guilford only managed seven hits.

Bethany Community pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Northeast Guilford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
