The Madison Cubs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Richmond 54-49. While losing is never fun, Madison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Richmond is ranked 16th).
Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Quincy Reynolds, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of ?scar Gonzalez, who scored six points.
Richmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braiden Hogg led the charge by scoring 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hogg has scored all season. Cedric Horton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Madison bumped their record down to 4-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Richmond, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madison's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Rushville at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Rushville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday. As for Richmond, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in New Palestine's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
