Basketball Recap: Atkins Drops Highest Score of Season Against Parkland

Atkins scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They lost to the Parkland Mustangs at home by a 89-72 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), the Camels still had to take the loss.

Leading Parkland to victory were Brock Jackson and Quincy Rumph. Jackson went 10 for 19 on his way to 34 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Rumph dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of Parkland's points. Jayden Scales was another key player, going 8 of 13 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Atkins has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. As for Parkland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-10.

Atkins and Parkland could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Atkins will challenge Ben L. Smith at 8:00 p.m. on Friday down 533 places (565 vs. 32). Meanwhile, Parkland (ranked 339th) will meet West Forsyth (ranked 24th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
