Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Twitty Key Part of a Team Effort in Gryphons Win

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They secured a 60-56 W over the Hibriten Panthers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Gryphons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Panthers are ranked 72nd).

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooklyn Twitty, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. Twitty is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Hargro, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Hibriten saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aamori Patterson went 9 of 19 on her way to 26 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Zoe Rector, who posted nine points.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Hibriten, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and Bessemer City will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bessemer City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.6 points per game this season. Hibriten will take on West Caldwell in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hibriten is facing West Caldwell at the right time seeing as West Caldwell is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
