The Central Catholic Buttons will be taking part in a tournament against the Sotomayor WILDCATS at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Central Catholic 3.6, Sotomayor 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Central Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Boerne 3-2.
Central Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chase Fox, who went 1-for-3 with one run. That hit was Fox's first of the season.
Sotomayor not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2025 (when they won 13-3). They blew past La Vernia 9-1.
Brody Alcoser made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kolaiah Staten, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025. Evan Fine was another key player, getting on base in four of his two plate appearances with two runs.
Sotomayor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Vernia only posted an OBP of .423.
Sotomayor's win bumped their record up to 3-0-1. As for Central Catholic, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Central Catholic couldn't quite finish off Sotomayor in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 and fell 7-5. Can the Buttons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
