The Tri-County Cavaliers will square off against the Caston Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Tri-County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Tri-County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Pioneer. The game was the first time the Cavaliers have beaten the Panthers on their field since April 2, 2019.
The team relied heavily on Grayson Schneider, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Voors, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Caston). Everything went their way against South Newton on Saturday as they made off with a 22-2 win. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by ten runs or more this season.
London Herd and Noah Herd made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Herd pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Noah tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Herd got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and four RBI, while Noah got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Noah has posted since back in May.
In other batting news, Parker Zimpleman and Tucker Woolever did most of the damage at the plate: Zimpleman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI, while Woolever went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave Zimpleman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew McGrew, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Caston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Newton only posted a batting average of .176.
Tri-County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Caston, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tri-County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Caston struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tri-County suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Caston in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
