Maple Mountain is a perfect 5-0 against Springville since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will take on the Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. Maple Mountain will be strutting in after a win while Springville will be coming in after a loss.
Maple Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Spanish Fork, who was ranked ninth at the time (Maple Mountain was ranked fifth). The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Dons on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Dons: they've now won six in a row.
Maple Mountain got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-16, 21-25, 28-30, 15-9.
McKay Beattie had an outrageously good game as he had 25 digs and three aces. That's the most aces he has posted over his last nine matches. Alberto Ripol Roma also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Maple Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Springville suffered their biggest defeat since March 12th on Wednesday. They came up short against Lehi, falling 3-0.
While Springville was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Lehi's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-22, 26-24.
Maple Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Springville, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Maple Mountain has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Springville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
