Boyd (Texas) took the lead for good when
Fino Cardona ran for a touchdown with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to beat
Pilot Point (Texas) 24-19 on Saturday.
After trailing 18-6 at the half, the Bearcats went ahead on a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the third.
By the end of the third, Boyd found itself trailing by 1 point as Pilot Point captured the lead thanks to two scores in the quarter. PP scored on a touchdown run by
Jarren Alexander and a touchdown pass by
Travis Garrett to
Mason Richey in the quarter.
Cardona was the top performer for BHS. The junior running back ran for four touchdowns. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
Garrett played well for the Bearcats. The sophomore quarterback threw two touchdowns.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 62-14 win for the Yellowjackets.
The loss comes after Pilot Point defeated Callisburg 20-7 last week. With the win Boyd extended its winning streak to three games.
Boyd (4-2) will play a 2A-1 Region II District 5 game against Callisburg next week, while Pilot Point (4-2) will take on Ponder also in a 2A-1 Region II District 5 game.
