Oregon City is 8-2 against West Linn since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pioneers will take on the Lions at 5:00 p.m. Oregon City will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Oregon City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Lakeridge on Friday as they made off with a 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Pacers: they've now won nine in a row.
Sophie Funnemark was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Stromme, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Oregon City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, West Linn hadn't done well against Tigard recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lions won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Avery Wolf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kendall Atwood, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Vivienne McGraw, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
West Linn pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oregon City, their record now sits at 6-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Oregon City hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Linn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Oregon City beat West Linn 7-4 in their previous meeting last Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
