1A Conference 6 recap September 10, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Bryan Blanton and Travis Bennett connected against West Stanly. The connection went for 73 yards, the longest such play in 1A Conference 6 this season.
Chatham Central was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Chatham Central defeated Kestrel Heights 41-8.
Caleb Drake was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 140 yards on 13 carries as West Montgomery bested Central Academy. Suave Pegues also contributed to the rushing game with 115 yards on the ground.
Pando was the best receiver in 1A Conference 6 this week as the Cardinals bested the Cougars. Pando tallied 3 receptions for 72 yards. Logan Pautz helped Union Academy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 46 yards.
Craig Twele provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Union Academy defeated Central Academy. He completed 8 passes for 135 yards and also ran for 76 yards.
Blanton put up the best numbers in passing as Albemarle defeated the Colts. He finished with 6 completions for 163 yards.
The Bulldogs' Blanton and Timmie White have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Blanton has thrown for 550 yards this season, while White has 9 catches for 278 yards. Drake from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 349 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when West Montgomery takes on Bob Pegram's team. Nick Eddins' team is in first place, while Chatham Central is in fifth place.
The Warriors moved up to 103 from 155 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. West Montgomery climbed the ranks as a result of besting Rockingham County 35-6.
