The Merritt Island Christian Cougars were the 57-20 winner over the Pineapple Cove Classical Academy Patriots when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Merritt Island Christian fell to Pineapple Cove Classical Academy 55-50.
Merritt Island Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Trey Nevad, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Connor Angstadt who scored 22 points along with 4 steals. Nevad scored a full 28% of Merritt Island Christian's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Avery Angstadt was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Among those leading the charge was Anthony Bender, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Tegland, who scored 8 points.
Merritt Island Christian has fallen quite a ways from their 17-8 record last season and are now at 1-3. As for Pineapple Cove Classical Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Merritt Island Christian will take on Trinity Prep in a holiday battle at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at. As for Pineapple Cove Classical Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Space Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
