Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Covenant Day Lions, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 34-27 to Hickory Grove Christian on Friday. Covenant Day has not had much luck with Hickory Grove Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Covenant Day lost, one person who can't be blamed is Will Andrews. Despite the final result, he rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Hickory Grove Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Thompson led the charge by rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Another player making a difference was Anthony Hawkins, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Covenant Day now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Hickory Grove Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Covenant Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hickory Grove Christian will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Asheville School (Independent) at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. One thing working in Asheville School (Independent)'s favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four contests.
