MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Carol City (Miami, Fla.) Chiefs have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 12th year honoring football.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a
state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For football, only 50 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 17,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Chiefs ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Saturday, Dec. 10 the No.6 seeded Chiefs claimed their first Florida football state title since 2003 with a 14-6 win over No.5 Lake Gibson in the
2016 FHSAA Class 6A state championship game at Camping World Stadium. Carol City came out on top in the fierce defensive battle and held the previously unbeaten Braves to just 89 offensive yards with a total of six sacks and three interceptions.
En route to the state championship, the Chiefs defeated Dillard (47-8), Northwestern (34-27), Mainland (34-7) and Charlotte (39-0). Together the team outscored its opponents 168-48 in the playoffs.

Head coach Aubrey Hill and the Chiefs (11-3) completed the fifth state championship season in program history. Under the leadership of defensive coordinator Damon Cogdell, Carol City played lights out defense all year and held nine of its 11 opponents this season to single digits and posted three shutouts.
The Class 6A state champions finished the season highly ranked by MaxPreps —
No.1 in Class 6A,
No.1 in the state,
No.5 in the South Region and
No.10 in the nation.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Carol City Chiefs an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the football team, coaching staff, students and fans on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. at the football field after a parade, which will start at 12 p.m. at the school.
