Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the William Byrd Terriers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by the Bulldogs 49-6 on Saturday. William Byrd's loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.
Israel Hairston threw for 73 yards on ten of 22 attempts.
Gideon Davidson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Liberty Christian, rushing for 223 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. Davidson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards. Eli Castaneda also helped out as he racked up 114 rushing yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding William Byrd to a paltry 107 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Liberty Christian's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was James Deyo and his two sacks.
William Byrd's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Liberty Christian, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0.
William Byrd does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Liberty Christian has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Lafayette at 5:00 p.m. on December 9th. Lafayette's defense has only allowed 6.5 points per game this season, so Liberty Christian's offense will have their work cut out for Liberty Christian.
