Basketball Recap: Briar Woods Takes a Loss

After flying high against John Champe last Friday, Briar Woods came back down to earth. The Briar Woods Falcons took a 72-53 bruising from the Riverside Ram on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 80-57 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Briar Woods still got an impressive performance from Patrick Fraim, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Fraim is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Devon Pettibone, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Briar Woods smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Riverside was led to victory by Mason Ridgeway and Joell Basue. Ridgeway went 8 of 13 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds, while Basue went 9 of 12 on his way to 20 points. Ridgeway's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Lawson, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

Briar Woods now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Riverside, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Briar Woods will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Woodgrove at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Briar Woods is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. As for Riverside, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 92-47 victory against John Champe on the 8th.
