The Copper Canyon Aztecs suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Buckeye, falling 79-33. Copper Canyon has struggled against Buckeye recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Copper Canyon had strong showings from Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Zalaya Dupre, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Felix is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season.
Copper Canyon struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Buckeye racked up 20 assists.
Buckeye was led to victory by Isabel Ramirez and Amayah Leyva. Ramirez dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Leyva dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ramirez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mikalah Tensley, who scored nine points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Copper Canyon has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Buckeye, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Copper Canyon will take on Glendale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Glendale is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Buckeye, they will play host again and welcome Independence, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Independence has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
