Northeastern has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Farmville Central Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Northeastern was fully in charge, breezing past First Flight 82-46 at home. The victory was just what Northeastern needed coming off of a 83-54 defeat in their prior contest.
Tyell Saunders was a one-man wrecking crew for Northeastern as he scored 22 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Saunders is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Alexander, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Farmville Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 89-37 victory over SouthWest Edgecombe. Fans of Farmville Central have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Farmville Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Whitehurst, who scored 23 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Mykal "MJ" Williams, who scored 15 points along with nine assists and three steals.
Northeastern now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Farmville Central, their win was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Northeastern have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.3 threes per game. It's a different story for Farmville Central, though, as they've been averaging only 8.3 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
