It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Oasis Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Pershing County Mustangs with a sharp 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bighorns, who have now won 18 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kirsten Detomasi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Taylynn Maynez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Shayana McNamer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Oasis Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Oasis Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pershing County, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-14.
As of now, neither Oasis Academy nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
