Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Hanover-Horton

Hanover-Horton proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 23) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lenawee Christian Cougars 56-54. The win was all the more spectacular given the Comets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Cougars are ranked 112th).

Luke Soper was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a double-double on 45 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times he's played. JJ Russ was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Hanover-Horton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Lenawee Christian, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hanover-Horton will head out to take on Michigan Center at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Hanover-Horton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches. As for Lenawee Christian, they are taking a road trip to challenge Summerfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerfield will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something Lenawee Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
