Basketball Recap: North Wilkes' Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against Elkin last Saturday, North Wilkes came back down to earth. The North Wilkes Vikings'2024 ended with a 64-45 defeat against the Surry Central Golden Eagles on Monday. The Vikings' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Surry Central had a senior duo take command as Tripp Mcmillen dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards and Mason Jewell went 9 of 13 on his way to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The match was Mcmillen's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jax Whitaker, who posted 12 points.

North Wilkes now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Surry Central, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Wilkes will face off against Alexander Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Alexander Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. As for Surry Central, they will venture away from home to take on Alleghany at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Surry Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Alleghany likes a good challenge.
