The Corning Cardinals lost against the Gridley Bulldogs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Corning took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gridley. While losing is never fun, Corning can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 636th, while Gridley is ranked 256th).
Corning's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Javier Cayetano, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Jordon Morrow who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Bennett, who scored seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Corning's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Gridley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Corning and Enterprise will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Enterprise is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. Gridley and Colusa will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Colusa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
