Swansboro is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Richlands Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Swansboro took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Topsail, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Swansboro sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Topsail on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for Swansboro.
Jordyn Williams and Payton Jensen did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Jensen scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Cahall, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Richlands duked it out with East Duplin on Wednesday. Richlands had just enough and edged out East Duplin 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Addi Andrews made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on LeNayah Jackson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jailah Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Swansboro pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Richlands, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Both Swansboro and Richlands just can't seem to miss. Swansboro has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Richlands struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Swansboro might still be hurting after the 10-3 defeat they got from Richlands in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Swansboro have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
