After a string of 16 wins, the Greenwood Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Pickens by a score of 38-36. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greenwood in their matchups with Pickens: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Greenwood saw an underclassman step up: Danielle Oliver scored 21 points along with four steals. Oliver has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Oliver, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Leading Pickens to victory were Ava Owens and Maggie Chambers. Owens scored 13 points along with six steals, while Chambers dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sadie Claire mckinney, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Greenwood's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-1. As for Pickens, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Greenwood will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Berea at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Berea will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while Greenwood is ranked seventh). As for Pickens, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Easley at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Easley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
