On Thursday, Owyhee beat Mammoth 40-32. Given Owyhee's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 34th in Nevada, while Mammoth is ranked 666th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mammoth's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Audrey Borunda, who scored 16 points along with 9 rebounds. Borunda scored a full 50% of Mammoth's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nicole Smyth, who scored 6 points along with 7 steals.
Owyhee has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Mammoth, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Owyhee will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pyramid Lake at 5:45 p.m. on December 8th. As for Mammoth, they will take on Yerington at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Yerington is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
