The Westminster Academy Lions and the Gonzaga Eagles (ranked 35 and five in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Westminster Academy fell to Gonzaga 76-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (62), Westminster Academy still had to take the loss.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Constanza, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. Constanza scored a full 34.7% of Westminster Academy's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Wimbley jr., who scored 17 points.
Westminster Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Gonzaga, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Westminster Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gonzaga and Bishop O'Connell will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bishop O'Connell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps National Rankings (they are ranked 31st in Virginia, while Gonzaga is ranked fifth in District of Columbia).
