After losing to the Martin County Tigers the last time they met, the Vero Beach Indians decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Vero Beach came out on top against Martin County by a score of 61-53 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Vero Beach.
Vero Beach's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andre Ferguson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Shelly, who scored 13 points.
Vero Beach pushed their record up to 4-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Martin County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vero Beach will be home for the holidays to greet South Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Fork presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vero Beach in Florida (South Fork is ranked 121st, while Vero Beach is ranked 300th). Martin County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against John Carroll Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on December 16th. John Carroll Catholic is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.3 points per game.
