B District 1 (8 Man) recap Oct. 9, 2012
Quenten Thayer of Covington-Douglas ran for the longest rushing play in B District 1 (8 Man) this season against Medford last week. Thayer's team beat the Cardinals as he sprinted for 75 yards on the play and finished with 147 in all.
Pond Creek-Hunter extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Garber, 42-16. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Panthers.
Covington-Douglas' dynamic duo of Thayer and Dylan Daugherty proved tough for Medford to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thayer threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns and Daugherty had 72 yards receiving. Gage Smith helped Covington-Douglas' passing attack out by catching one ball for 57 yards.
Brady Krittenbrink was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 211 yards as Pond Creek-Hunter beat Jonathan Hampton's team. Trenton Grimes also contributed to the rushing game with 97 yards on the ground.
Covington-Douglas' Thayer and Daugherty have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading B District 1 (8 Man) in both passing and receiving yards. Thayer has thrown for 621 yards this season, while Daugherty, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 11 catches for 296 yards. David Kerr's team's Krittenbrink leads the league in rushing yards with 1078.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Wolverines and Laverne. Garber enters the contest ranked seventh in the state, while the Tigers ranks first.
Ringwood was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Red Devils vanquished Canton 60-34 earlier in the week.
