The Pawhuska Huskies fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Pawnee Black Bears on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to the Black Bears. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Pawhuska of the 60-40 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Pawhuska lost, one person who can't be blamed is Fallon Bowman. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 19 rebounds. That was a full 44.2% of Pawhuska's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Shanell Cochrane, who scored ten points.
Pawhuska's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Pawnee, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pawhuska will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Woodland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Huskies are ranked 129th). As for Pawnee, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m.
