Marathon's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Leal, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-2. Those seven RBI gave Leal a new career-high. Another was Gabriel Leal, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Marathon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Glades Day got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Moore Haven.
Taranza McKelvin Jr was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Glades Day: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Marathon pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Glades Day, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marathon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Glades Day struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Marathon's way against Glades Day when the teams last played back in March, as Marathon made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Dolphins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
