Basketball Recap: Oxford Prep Triumphs

Oxford Prep hadn't done well against Henderson Collegiate recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Oxford Prep Griffins walked away with a 50-42 win over the Henderson Collegiate Pride. This was a revenge game for the Griffins: when they faced off against the Pride back in January, they had to take a 60-45 loss.

Oxford Prep had a senior duo take command as Davis Faulkner almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds and Drew West on his way to 12 points and three steals. Faulkner has become a key player for Oxford Prep: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least eight boards, but 2-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Lee, who posted eight points.

When it comes to explaining why Henderson Collegiate lost, don't look at Jayson Baskerville. Despite the final result, he earned 14 points. Baskerville is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Atereon Bullock, who put up nine points and five rebounds.

Oxford Prep's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 6-14. As for Henderson Collegiate, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season.

Oxford Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 69-58 defeat against Excelsior Classical Academy on the 13th. As for Henderson Collegiate, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-54 loss against Roxboro Community on the 14th.
