The Longmont Trojans waltzed into their matchup Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Evergreen with points to spare, taking the game 49-30. Given Longmont's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Evergreen is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Longmont had a senior duo take command as Cole Gaddis scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals and Suge Valles scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Valles scored 15 or more points. Dominic Lombrano was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Logan Mahnken. Despite the final result, he scored eight points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Longmont's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Evergreen, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-4.
Longmont won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bear Creek at 8:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Bear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. Evergreen won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Loveland at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th. Allowing an average of 59.2 points per game, Loveland has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
