The Moapa Valley Pirates will head out on the road to challenge The Meadows School Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Moapa Valley has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while The Meadows School will arrive with 11 straight victories.
Last Wednesday, Moapa Valley came up short against Eldorado and fell 64-53.
Moapa Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brigham Whitmore, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Bryson Walker who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Bunker, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Moapa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eldorado only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, The Meadows School strolled past Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 51-34.
The Meadows School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Uzo Nwapa, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nwapa has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cyrus Hutchison, who scored nine points along with six assists.
Moapa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-17-1. As for The Meadows School, they pushed their record up to 19-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Moapa Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like The Meadows School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Moapa Valley came up short against The Meadows School in their previous matchup back in December of 2019, falling 73-68.
