Riverton has gone 6-1 against Pittsburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will welcome the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Riverton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Riverton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Mt. Vernon, who was ranked fifth in their home state at the time (Riverton was ranked 18th). The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Mountaineers two weeks ago. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by just one run.
Roxsan Felix spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Riverton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Barnett, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Pittsburg came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Grizzlies as they made off with a 12-2 victory. Considering the Dragons have won 13 contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Pittsburg also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Breck Slaughter gave up just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brette Pasteur, who fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emily Shriver, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Pittsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 11 consecutive games.
Pittsburg pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Riverton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Both Riverton and Pittsburg just can't seem to miss. The Rams have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Pittsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverton might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Pittsburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
