The Palmetto Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight defeat. They suffered a rough 52-27 loss at the hands of Powdersville. While losing is never fun, Palmetto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Powdersville is ranked 82nd).
Carrigan Holbert and Ariana Pendleton certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Holbert scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and two steals, while Pendleton scored six points along with ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Pendleton pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Palmetto struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Powdersville racked up 12 assists.
Among those leading the charge was Leandra Lawson, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. She is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Davidson, who scored eight points.
Palmetto has been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for Powdersville, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11.
Palmetto does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Powdersville, they will head out on the road to take on Fountain Inn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Powdersville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
