The Palmer Ridge Bears will challenge the Eaton Reds at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Palmer Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Palmer Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Elizabeth, who was ranked fourth at the time (Palmer Ridge was ranked second). The Bears came up short against the Cardinals on Friday, falling 8-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost six in a row.
Pam Boyarko spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Palmer Ridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savanah Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Tehani Lum-Perreira also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Eaton entered their tilt with Southeast Colorado on Friday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Angels 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Reds, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kenzie Braddy and Bria Foster made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Braddy pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Foster kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. At bat, Braddy went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Foster went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rayelle Navarro, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Paige Hofer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Eaton's record now sits at 8-1. As for Palmer Ridge, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Palmer Ridge has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Eaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Palmer Ridge might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Eaton when the teams last played back in September of 2023. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
