For the first time this season, Sharpsville will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Greenville Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last Friday, Sharpsville came up short against Conneaut Area and fell 5-2. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Dom Malone was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Malone was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. That run marked the first that he scored this season.
Malone wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Tarnoci, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Gabe Titus also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Greenville is still undefeated this season after their match against Oil City on Monday, but Oil City came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Oilers 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Jacob Csonka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Jackson Leskovac was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Greenville pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Sharpsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Everything went Sharpsville's way against Greenville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Sharpsville made off with a 9-0 win. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
