After soaring to 49 points the game before, Punxsutawney were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell 14-7 to Brookville. Punxsutawney gained 139 more yards on the day, but it was Brookville that made the best of use of them.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Landon Martz, who rushed for 131 yards.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Ridgway/Johnsonburg out of the water with a 51-13 final score. 51 seems to be a good number for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley relied on the efforts of Brody Dittman, who threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes, and Trey Fleming, who picked up 225 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Fleming's longest reception was for an incredible 97 yards. Owen Bish was another key contributor, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Brookville's win bumped their season record to 7-2 while Punxsutawney's defeat dropped theirs to 6-3.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Punxsutawney has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 221.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Punxsutawney took their victory against Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 27-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Punxsutawney since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
