Stratton hasn't had much luck against Holly recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Friday, Stratton made easy work of Manzanola and carried off an 18-3 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Ricky Schillig was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schillig was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grady Steerman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Keegan Isenbart, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Holly had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Manzanola with a sharp 22-5 victory on Tuesday. The Wildcats' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
Like Stratton, Holly also got a great game from a two-way player: Coy King. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. King was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jesse Pizarro was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Edson Noriega was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Stratton pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Holly, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-6.
Stratton was able to grind out a solid victory over Holly in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 11-8. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
