Laurens has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Fountain Inn Fury at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
Last Friday, Laurens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 29-23 to Clinton.
Despite the defeat, Laurens had strong showings from Faith Jackson, who scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, and Zoe Young, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Young scored a full 30.4% of Laurens' points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Fountain Inn has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 26 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Woodruff with a sharp 45-19 victory on Friday. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 22% better than the opposition, as Fountain Inn's was.
Madison Garnett and Tori Bell were among the main playmakers for Fountain Inn as the former scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and the latter scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Bell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zipora Sullivan, who scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Laurens' victory lifted them to 4-4 while Clinton's loss dropped them down to 4-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Laurens have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fountain Inn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
