The Moore Catholic Mavericks are taking a road trip to challenge the Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Moore Catholic has five straight victories, Monsignor Scanlan has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Monsignor Scanlan's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Moore Catholic hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Mavericks' pitcher stepped up to hand Archbishop Stepinac a 5-0 shutout on Monday.

NICHOLAS NEVILLE
04/28/25 @ Archbishop Stepinac | 6 |
04/21/25 vs Mt. St. Michael Academy | 10 |
04/13/25 @ Cardinal Spellman | 12 |
04/03/25 vs St. Peter's | 6 |
03/29/25 @ McKee Vo-Tech/Staten Island Tech | 6 |
03/22/25 @ St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 9 |
Not much got past NICHOLAS NEVILLE, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Archbishop Stepinac off the board. NEVILLE has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, TODD VIERRA and JUSTIN NELSON did most of the damage at the plate: VIERRA went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while NELSON went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits VIERRA has posted over his last nine matchups. Another player making a difference was RYAN ZEH, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Monsignor Scanlan lost 7-1 to Cardinal Spellman on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Crusaders have lost by exactly six runs.
Monsignor Scanlan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ahmo Kolenovic, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Moore Catholic's win bumped their record up to 14-6-1. As for Monsignor Scanlan, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Moore Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monsignor Scanlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Moore Catholic's way against Monsignor Scanlan in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Moore Catholic made off with a 9-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
