Mountain View Academy took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on KIPP San Jose Collegiate, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, KIPP San Jose Collegiate earned a 57-50 win over North Valley Baptist. The victory made it back-to-back wins for KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
KIPP San Jose Collegiate's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Christian Ademe-Johnson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Jonathan Mendoza, who scored 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mendoza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Juan Ayala, who scored nine points along with 14 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mountain View Academy struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Thursday (North Valley Baptist was 32% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mountain View Academy was dealt a 74-46 defeat at the hands of North Valley Baptist. It was the first time this season that Mountain View Academy let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Mountain View Academy saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Penaflorida scored 21 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Penaflorida scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Mercado, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
KIPP San Jose Collegiate's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Mountain View Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Everything came up roses for KIPP San Jose Collegiate against Mountain View Academy when the teams last played on Monday as the squad secured a 82-44 win. With KIPP San Jose Collegiate ahead 42-19 at the half, the match was all but over already.
