Baseball Recap: Caldwell Academy Has No Trouble Against Bishop Mcguinness

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against High Point Christian Academy, Caldwell Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Bishop McGuinness Villains as Caldwell Academy made off with a 19-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Brett Bullins made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Caldwell Academy is undefeated when Bullins posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Amari Stout and Neal Swindell did most of the damage at the plate: Stout went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Swindell went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave Stout a new career-high. Spencer McBurney was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Caldwell Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Caldwell Academy's record now sits at 6-7. As for Bishop McGuinness, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Coming up, Caldwell Academy will face off against Wesleyan Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bishop McGuinness, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-0 victory against Millennium on the 28th.
