The Linden Eagles will challenge the Huron Chiefs at 12:50 p.m. on Saturday. Linden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Linden managed to slip by Owosso the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles came up short against the Trojans on Thursday, falling 11-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since April 23rd.
Lilly Ciesielski (2028) and Addi Piotrovsky (2029) did some serious damage despite the final result: Ciesielski (2028) went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Piotrovsky (2029) got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Ciesielski (2028) has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Macy Common (2029), who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Huron ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Riverview 12-11. Huron's victory was all the more impressive since the Pirates were averaging only 3.26 runs allowed on the season.
Ava Russo was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Shore, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-5.
Huron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Huron back to even at 4-4. As for Linden, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8.
Huron's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Linden has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Huron, though, as they've only averaged .330.
