If the Steele Comets were riding high off their 51-27 takedown of the Normandy Invaders last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Steele fell to Avon 51-47. Steele was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Avon apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
It was another big night for Molly Drenik, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds for Avon. Drenik hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Emma Owens, who scored nine points.
Steele's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-6. As for Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Steele will be playing in front of their home fans against North Ridgeville at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. North Ridgeville will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Avon, they will head out on the road to face off against Avon Lake at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Avon Lake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Avon in Ohio (Avon Lake is ranked 17th, while Avon is ranked 173rd).
