The Villages Charter Buffalo will face off against the Citrus Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Villages Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
The Villages Charter barely beat Union County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buffalo put the hurt on the Fightin' Tigers with a sharp 10-3 victory on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Buffalo needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Torin Foley was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Marcello Cortale was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
The Villages Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union County only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Citrus suffered their biggest loss since March 18th on Wednesday. They lost 15-2 to South Sumter. The Hurricanes have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Citrus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Beck, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Beck also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Another was Cole Palmeri, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
The Villages Charter is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Citrus, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.
Citrus' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: The Villages Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. It's a different story for Citrus, though, as they've only averaged .225. Will they be able to contain The Villages Charter's hitters?
Everything went The Villages Charter's way against Citrus in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as The Villages Charter made off with a 10-3 victory. Do the Buffalo have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
